Quality Assurance Manager - Manchester

Salary: £25k - £30k per annum negotiable

Our client a nursery wholesaler, selling infant/nursery products directly to independent retailers is ranked as one of the 50 fastest growing businesses in the Greater Manchester area and one of the top 300 SMEs in the North West.

The Role

They are seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Quality Assurance/Technical Manager to join the Product Development team. This is a chance to join a highly successful organisation that is in a period of growth, in what will be an interesting and varied role.

The Quality Assurance/Technical Manager will be based within the product design - development department and work with other functions across the organisation to determine and establish procedures, compliance and quality standards and to monitor these against agreed targets.

The successful candidate should demonstrate an understanding and interest in basic engineering principles, comprehend the commercial implications of quality and technical decisions and show genuine enthusiasm for continuous improvement in working practices, product and processes.

An absolute minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar or relevant role is essential.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

• Acting as a catalyst for change and improvement in performance/quality; development and deployment of product quality assurance strategy
• Determining, negotiating and agreeing in-house quality procedures, standards and/or specifications
• Communicating with suppliers in relation to technical and quality issues including the specification of quality requirements of raw materials and assembled products and desired improvements
• Assessing customer requirements and ensuring that these are met
• Ensuring that manufacturing processes comply with key and important legislation
• Recording, analysing and distributing statistical information and monitoring performance (returns information, trend analysis, quality improvements)
• Setting customer service standards and supporting the customer service team with quality and technical requests
• Investigating and setting standards for Health and Safety within the organisation
• Lead and/or contribute to new product risk assessment meetings
• Coordinating and overseeing the inspection of inbound products and the production and filing of associated inspection reports


Qualifications and training required: HND or above

Key skills for quality assurance managers

• Excellent organisational and planning skills (time management)
• Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to summarise issues succinctly and judge the appropriate level of communication required to stakeholders with tact and diplomacy
• A natural aptitude and enthusiasm for problem solving
• Ability to deal with high volumes of work
• Impeccable attention to detail
• IT skills (Microsoft Office esp. Excel and Outlook
• Basic understanding of engineering principles and materials/manufacturing processes
• It is also essential to have good numerical skills and an understanding of statistics.


Desirable but not essential

• UK driving licence
• Knowledge or understanding of infant products and/or UK nursery market
• A passion for product improvement by design
